£16m Nottingham Forest player gives Nuno Espirito Santo a conundrum with drab FA Cup showing
Nuno Espirito Santo somewhat surprised everyone by selecting Zach Abbott, a rookie player, to start at right-back and benching Anthony Elanga for the match.
After just ninety seconds, Forest’s game plan was completely destroyed by a straightforward goal from Rico Lewis, leaving the Reds with a mountain to climb in the match.
Morgan Gibbs-White struck the post and the bar against the team vying for his services in the summer, while Espirito Santo watched as Elanga squandered a good opportunity shortly after halftime.
Although Forest’s performance against City included some encouraging moments, there were also some quite lackluster ones, with one player in particular now giving his manager more questions than answers.
Given that Danilo has struggled with a significant injury this season, it’s difficult to be very critical of him, yet his form does need to be taken into account.
After playing well defensively against Tottenham on Monday night, Danilo was able to hold onto his position. However, he was incredibly disappointing versus City, and it was not surprising that he was substituted at halftime.
Espirito Santo was right to substitute him at halftime because he wasn’t present at yesterday’s races against Pep Guardiola’s squad and it was obvious that he wasn’t impressed by his 45-minute effort.
Fans are unsure of what the Brazilian is truly contributing when he is selected, and Danilo simply doesn’t seem to be settling into any midfield role that he has been assigned thus far.
Despite the fact that the youngster is still young enough to get better, Forest cannot afford to have any passengers for their final five Premier League games.
Since moving from Palmeiras to the City Ground in January 2023, the Forest midfielder has been a good addition, helping the Reds stay in the top division in the 2022–2023 season.
Since rejoining the club after an injury, Danilo has scored a few crucial goals for the group, but ultimately, he isn’t doing well enough to merit his consistent selection.
