200 spaces at Norwich park and ride off limits to drivers
In an arrangement that would put more than £350,000 into municipal coffers, two hundred spots at one of
Norwich’s park and ride locations will stay closed to cars.
For staff parking, Norfolk County Council has been renting 200 spots to Perenco, an Anglo-French oil and gas
business, at the Norwich Airport Park and Ride location.
However, the council’s cabinet member for corporate services and innovation, Jane James, has exercised her
authority to extend the lease for a further two years because it expires later this month.
Park and ride services will be supported.
“There will remain sufficient parking spaces to serve the needs of the park and ride service for the proposed two year
lease term.”
Perenco’s new lease coincides with the start of the hunt for a new company to manage Norwich’s bus station and look
after the city’s park and ride locations.
Currently, Konectbus is in charge of managing and maintaining the structures at the city’s bus terminal as well as the
six park and ride locations.
The contractor will be in charge of upkeep and cleaning at the park and ride locations at Norwich Airport, Harford,
Sprowston, Thickthorn, Postwick, and Costessey. In addition to overseeing the bus station and the park and ride
locations, Konectbus has operated the park and ride bus services since 2015. However, that will change at the end of
this month when the council gives First and Simonds the contract to operate the park and ride services.
