Sheffield United are considering the future of Chris Wilder despite their excellent points return in the 2024/25 campaign.
Even though the season ended in sadness as Sunderland defeated the Blades in the play-off final, Wilder’s team finished with 92 points from 46 games if you remove their two-point deduction.
| 2024-25 Championship table | ||||
| Team | P | GD | Pts | |
| 1 | Leeds United (C) | 46 | 65 | 100 |
| 2 | Burnley (P) | 46 | 53 | 100 |
| 3 | Sheffield United | 46 | 27 | 90 |
| 4 | Sunderland (P) | 46 | 14 | 76 |
| 5 | Coventry City | 46 | 6 | 69 |
| 6 | Bristol City | 46 | 4 | 68 |
| 7 | Blackburn Rovers | 46 | 5 | 66 |
| 8 | Millwall | 46 | -2 | 66 |
Normally, that figure would guarantee a top-two finish, but Sheffield United missed out on automatic promotion because Leeds United and Burnley both reached 100 points.
Chris Wilder facing uncertain Sheffield United future
As a result, talk of sacking Wilder may appear harsh, but with a new board in place at Bramall Lane, there is speculation that they may choose to go in a different way.
That has already occurred with transfers, as January deals for Jefferson Cacares and Christian Nwachukwu, as well as, more recently, Ehije Ukaki, were completed as a result of a data-driven approach to recruitment that utilized AI.
