7-figure Blackburn Rovers & Charlton Athletic transfer bids turned down by Scottish club

Scottish club rejects seven-figure transfer offers from Charlton Athletic and Blackburn Rovers

According to Sky Sports Scotland, Hibernian has turned down proposals of £1 million from Blackburn and Charlton for Miller. The physically strong defender can play both right-back and on the right side of a back three, which is how he performed for Hibernian in the second half of the previous season, helping them finish third in the Scottish Premier League.

With less than a year left on his contract at Easter Road after Hibs triggered a 12-month extension to his contract in April, the 24-year-old Sydney native, who is a full international for Australia, may be the target of a transfer battle between Blackburn and Charlton as the summer transfer window goes on.

Despite Miller’s contract expiring in 2026, Hibernian has rejected bids totalling £1 million, indicating that the Edinburgh-based team values the player highly. Hibernian smashed their all-time transfer record this summer by acquiring Togo international striker Thibault Klidje from Swiss club Luzern for an estimated fee of more than £1 million, which puts those offers into perspective.

It’s unclear if Blackburn or Charlton will make better offers for Miller this summer, but since the first offers were substantial and the player’s contract expires in the summer, it wouldn’t be shocking if they approached the situation with somewhat higher offers.

At this point in his career, Miller might view a move to the Championship as a good opportunity, especially since he is undoubtedly hoping to be included in Australia’s squad for the FIFA World Cup in 2026. Miller made 39 appearances for Hibernian in all competitions last season and played for the team in UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers.

It will be intriguing to see if Blackburn or Charlton can close a move for Miller this summer as they try to bolster their defences on the right side. If they can, they will obviously have to spend more than £1 million.

With the addition of Ryan Alebiosu from Belgian team KV Kortrijk this summer, Blackburn has already bolstered their right-back position. However, with Joe Rankin-Costello joining Charlton and Middlesbrough showing interest in Callum Brittain, it appears that Valerien Ismael is considering Miller to further bolster his team in that area of the pitch. Rovers are obviously looking for defensive players right now, since they are also very close to signing Sean McLoughlin, a centre-back for Hull City.
