8 Shot, 1 Killed Across 4 Cheltenham Neighborhoods Within 3 Hours

Cheltenham, PA — A wave of gun violence rocked the community Tuesday night as eight people were shot, one fatally, in four separate incidents across different neighborhoods. Police say the shootings all occurred within a three-hour period, prompting concerns of a coordinated wave of violence or retaliatory acts.

The Cheltenham Township Police Department confirmed that the shootings began around 6:30 p.m. and continued until just after 9:30 p.m., spanning neighborhoods including Wyncote, Glenside, Elkins Park, and La Mott.

“We’re actively investigating the possibility that these incidents are related,” said Cheltenham Police Chief Anthony Lawson during a press briefing on Wednesday morning. “At this point, it’s too early to say definitively, but we’re treating each scene as part of a broader pattern.”

First Shooting: Wyncote

The first report came from the Wyncote neighborhood at approximately 6:32 p.m., where officers responded to gunfire near Easton Road and Mt. Carmel Avenue. A 24-year-old man was found shot in the leg and taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition. Witnesses told police they saw a dark-colored sedan fleeing the area moments after the shots rang out.

Second Shooting: Glenside

Just 45 minutes later, another shooting occurred in Glenside near Limekiln Pike and Church Road. This time, three victims—two men and a woman, all in their twenties—were found with gunshot wounds. The woman was critically injured with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, while the others were listed in stable condition.

Third Shooting: Elkins Park

Shortly after 8:00 p.m., Elkins Park saw its own burst of violence when shots were fired on Old York Road. A 30-year-old man was fatally shot while sitting in his parked car, according to investigators. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. Police believe he may have been specifically targeted.

Fourth Shooting: La Mott

The final shooting of the night occurred around 9:20 p.m. in the La Mott neighborhood, where three more individuals were shot outside a corner store on Penrose Avenue. All three victims are expected to survive, though one remains in serious condition. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses is being reviewed for leads.

Community Reaction

Local leaders and residents have expressed shock and concern over the sudden surge in gun violence. “We are not used to this level of chaos,” said Councilwoman Denise Parker. “Our neighborhoods deserve better, and we demand swift action and justice.”

Cheltenham police are working with county investigators and reviewing security footage from all four locations. No arrests have been made yet, but authorities say they are following several strong leads.

Anyone with information about the shootings is urged to contact the Cheltenham Township Police Department’s tip line.

“We will not rest until those responsible are brought to justice,” said Chief Lawson.

Police are also increasing patrols in the affected neighborhoods and urging residents to remain vigilant while the investigation continues.
