The Belgian’s departure will be confirmed on Monday, just six months after he was promoted to Technical Director.

Nils Koppen will be the first high-profile departure from Ibrox as Andrew Cavenagh begins his Rangers overhaul.

According to Record Sport, the Light Blues’ recruitment chief will step down from his position as Technical Director as Gers’ new American management team begins restructuring the club’s backroom operations.

The Belgian’s departure will be confirmed on Monday, shortly after Kevin Thelwell begins his new role as sporting director at Ibrox.

Former PSV Eindhoven head scout Koppen joined Gers in January of last year, after being hired to lead the club’s search for new players.

He played a key role in bringing in notable players like Jeffte, Hamza Igamane, Robin Propper, Nedim Bajrami, and Vaclav Cerny in the previous summer.

However, those additions did not change Rangers’ on-field fortunes, as they finished 17 points behind double-winning Celtic.

His promotion to a larger role as Technical Director last November raised eyebrows among supporters, given the struggles of the players he had assisted in recruiting.

Just six months later, he’s leaving Ibrox.

Former Everton football director Thelwell will now be in charge of reshaping the Gers squad.

He is already in talks with potential candidates to replace Philippe Clement as the team’s permanent manager, but will increase his involvement now that he has his own office.

Cavenagh and his San Francisco 49ers partners completed their £75 million Ibrox takeover on Friday and have pledged an additional £20 million to upgrade the squad.

It remains to be seen who will be entrusted with spending such large sums.

Davide Anecelotti is the leading candidate, with Russell Martin, Francesco Farioli, and Brian Priske also vying for the position.
