Only Erling Haaland and Alexander Isak have been directly involved in more goals in the top division this season, but you have to wonder whether Mbeumo has a greater target in mind for next year. So why not?

After all, one of the most impressive parts of Mbeumo’s career thus far has been his consistent development year after year. Mbeumo scored only four goals in his first season in the top division in 2022, but more than doubled his output (nine) the following season.

Mbeumo’s season was cut short by an ankle injury last year, but he still managed to score nine goals in 13 fewer league games before having the best season of his career in 2024/25.

However, you get the impression that the 25-year-old is still getting started.

“I always wanted to play the biggest games for the biggest clubs when I was younger,” Mbeumo said last month. “But it’s simple to say, ‘I want to be there’.

“You should put a lot of pressure on yourself. I’ve demonstrated my abilities, and I’m quite demanding of myself because I know I can do it.
