Aidan Morris moved to Middlesbrough from Columbus, Ohio last summer.
Aidan Morris confesses that settling in at Middlesbrough was difficult at first, but with the support of his teammates and the club, he now feels totally at home on Teesside.
Morris decided to join Boro from Columbus Crew last summer, fulfilling his lifetime aim of playing in England. At only 23, the midfielder still has a lot of goals to reach, and he’d want to do it at the Riverside.
However, going so far away from home represented a significant sacrifice for the USA international. Even though he traveled from one English-speaking country to another, he still had to contend with cultural differences, as well as being thousands of miles away from his home, where all of his friends and family lived. But, with the aid of his Boro teammates, he’s already settled in on Teesside.
In a club interview, Morris stated, “It’s different here than at home. I wouldn’t say it’s been simple to settle, but I believe challenging situations teach you a lot about yourself. I’m settled now, happy, and surrounded by nice friends. “Good teammates.”
Morris was not a stranger to living away from home. Morris was born and reared in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, despite having spent his infancy with the Columbus Crew in Ohio. He left home at the age of 15 to pursue his football passion, but things did not go as planned.
He stated, “My brother [Jake] moved to Louisville when he was 15, and I followed his lead and decided to do the same when I was 15.” It was difficult leaving home. But I was introduced to a fantastic host family there, and I still consider them my own. I was returning home at the end of the day to the same people and having a delicious meal prepared for me.
“It was difficult to leave home, but I had incredible people around me, a strong support network, and a fantastic club. Making sacrifices is sometimes necessary to achieve great things. Moving to Boro was unique because I moved here alone. I am all by myself.
“That’s what I expected, and it’s exactly what I signed up for. In many ways, it’s been beneficial. It forces me to grow, to discover new aspects of myself, and to accept the quietness at times.”
