Leeds United will be trying to recruit a new custodian this summer, and Newcastle United’s transfer activities may open up a feasible target.
Daniel Farke took a bold stance on Illan Meslier during the 24/25 season, but the Frenchman’s position became untenable after a pair of high-profile gaffes in April.
It could be Meslier’s final game for the club, as Leeds is sure to hunt Europe for the best transfer market answer.
Leeds United are interested in Newcastle United custodian Nick Pope, according to a report.
According to a Daily Mail report from early June, Leeds could turn to Premier League rivals Newcastle United in their search for a new custodian.
Towering stopper Nick Pope is the player in question, and he might leave St James’ Park if Eddie Howe can find an excellent successor as they prepare for Champions League action again.
A deal to sign Pope is contingent on the Magpies being able to sign a new first-choice custodian, whom they are presently pursuing in Burnley’s James Trafford. Last August, Howe’s side attempted to sign Trafford but were unsuccessful, and the 22-year-old went on to have a record-breaking season under Scott Parker.
According to the source, if Trafford moves to Tyneside this summer, Pope might be free to leave, allowing Leeds to bolster a critical position while Burnley would be much weaker as a result of Trafford’s departure, as well as the anticipated departure of centre-back CJ Egan-Riley.
