Scottish football manager spared axe despite ‘deep frustration’ as Hearts legend brought in to help.

Staggies make changes under manager in bid to return to the Premiership Ross County have remained loyal to manager Don Cowie despite the “deep frustration” of being demoted from the Scottish Premiership. However, changes have occurred in his backroom staff, with aides Carl Tremarco and Paul Cowie leaving the Dingwall outfit. Former County manager and Hearts star John Robertson will be Cowie’s new No. 2, with the Staggies citing his extensive experience in Scottish football as crucial for the upcoming season.
County’s relegation was confirmed last week after they lost a two-legged play-off against Livingston. They have not won in 11 games and hence fall into the Championship. Cowie was adamant in defeat that he is still the best person to lead the club back to the top flight, and following a week of negotiations, owner Roy MacGregor and the Staggies leadership have given him their support.

“As you can expect, we have done a lot of soul searching at the club over the last week, and as a result, we have chosen to restructure our football management team under Don Cowie, making immediate promotion our exclusive objective. “We are certain that Don is a motivated and capable manager who will lead us into the upcoming season.

County chief executive officer Steven Ferguson added: “Everyone at the club is determined to put us in the best position possible to gain promotion back into the Premiership – and to do so within a season. Bringing John in to support Don, will allow us to reshape the playing squad and turn things around as quickly as possible.”
