Brighton & Hove Albion have joined Fulham and West Ham United in the race to sign Southampton’s upcoming free agent Kyle Walker-Peters.

Of all the players the Saints could lose this summer, their star fullback is the only one who will not be adequately compensated.

Walker-Peters’ five-year contract with Southampton, which earned him his first England cap in 2022, expires at the end of this month, allowing him to choose a new club.

Walker-Peters has sparked long-term interest. Tottenham Hotspur, the versatile defender’s former club, were reportedly interested in signing him before and after their promotion to the Premier League, but no deal was made.

Premier League clubs are beginning to line up, with the 28-year-old’s wages the only financial burden for whichever team signs him. A new candidate has been added to the list of interested parties.

According to Sky Sports, Brighton is interested in signing Walker-Peters and may compete with other top-flight clubs for his services.

Fulham and West Ham were among the first clubs to offer Walker-Peters a contract, according to talkSPORT.

The Scottish full-back Max Johnston has been mentioned as a potential replacement for the former England international. Buying him from Austrian club Sturm Graz is expected to cost £3 million.

They expect to lose more than just the fullback this summer. In 2023, they earned £145 million from player sales, so it’s likely to be similar this time around. Dragan Solak, the club’s chairman, aims to sell his top English players, Tyler Dibling, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, and Aaron Ramsdale, for around £100 million before the start of the next season.

Mateus Fernandes is being pursued by several Premier League clubs. However, he has expressed a desire to return to St Mary’s and help Southampton improve on their previous season.

The growing interest in Walker-Peters by the Premier League is not surprising.

The 28-year-old should be on the radar of every Premier League club this summer, with the exception of those at the top of the table. In comparison to most other players in his position, he has incredible positional fluidity, seamlessly switching from left to right flank.

He started 33 games for the Saints last season, easily demonstrating that he was one of the best players on a very poor team. He is a Premier League starting XI player, and the fact that he does not have to pay a fee to another club to acquire him makes him an even more desirable commodity.
