Youssef El Kachati gave Telstar the perfect send-off, scoring in a 3-1 away win over Willem II to secure the club’s promotion to the Eredivisie. The result secured a 5-3 aggregate victory in the playoff final, closing off an incredible run by the Dutch second tier’s seventh-place finishers.

Telstar, who last played in the Eredivisie in 1978, is ending a 47-year exile from the top division. The club’s historic ascent was led by El Kachati, who has scored 25 goals in 45 games this season and has already announced his resignation.

The 25-year-old stated after the game that he will not be signing a new contract because his current one had expired. Although Celtic is one of the teams rumoured to have scouted the striker throughout his successful campaign, Dutch team NEC Nijmegen is also heavily linked.

El Kachati might become a target as Brendan Rodgers evaluates his forward options before the upcoming campaign.

“I knew this would be my last match in the Telstar shirt, so I gave it my all and didn’t want to get knocked out this time,” he stated (RecordSport).

“I’m really worn out. I really wanted to go to the Eredivisie with these men, even if it meant being carried off the pitch on a stretcher.

It’s true that NEC would really like to have me. Although there are other clubs in the running, that is one of the ones I can attend. “After taking in the festivities, my agency and I will gradually come to a decision.

We put up a great fight for one another, so this is well deserved. El Kachati is a desirable option, especially on a free transfer, because of his physical presence and natural finishing ability.

His ability to consistently score goals has drawn attention from all over Europe, and Celtic’s interest indicates that they are keeping an eye on up-and-coming talent in unconventional markets.

El Kachati’s final act in a Telstar shirt exemplified his influence, as he led their promotion push and demonstrated the drive and mentality Rodgers seeks in a signing.

While NEC appears to be leading the chase, El Kachati himself admitted that more clubs are in the mix. Celtic would need to act decisively if they wish to bring him to Glasgow.
