Jobe Bellingham makes Sunderland transfer decision with significant release clause reportedly revealed

Jobe Bellingham is increasingly set to depart Sunderland this summer as Borussia Dortmund ramp up their chase.

Jobe Bellingham has opted to join Borussia Dortmund this summer, according to several German publications.

According to Sky Sports Germany and major tabloid Bild, the 19-year-old has opted to pursue a move to Signal Iduna Park this summer after considering his options following Sunderland’s play-off final victory over Sheffield United at Wembley.

Dortmund has been setting the groundwork for a prospective deal for several months, and the midfielder is eager to follow in his older brother Jude’s footsteps. They faced stiff late competition from Eintracht Frankfurt, which, like Borussia Dortmund, has qualified for next season’s Champions League.

Sunderland have yet to agree on a cost for the midfielder, who is under contract until the summer of 2028. According to Bild, Dortmund is unwilling to pay more than 25 million Euros for the midfielder, while Sunderland is demanding more. The Black Cats are in a strong negotiating position, but they are unlikely to stand in Bellingham’s way if he wants to leave and their valuation is fulfilled, especially given that he turned down Premier League offers last summer to stay and spearhead a promotion campaign.

A deal would result in a significant return for Sunderland from their investment in Bellingham two years ago, though Birmingham City would gain from a sell-on clause of around 15%. According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Sunderland is waiting for Bellingham’s release clause, which is said to be worth over 40 million euros, to be met.

Dortmund has been pressing hard for Bellingham’s signing, with several top club officials making personal pitches to the child and his representatives. Bellingham did visit Eintracht Frankfurt while weighing his options, but he appears to have decided on a transfer to Signal Iduna Park.

What Jobe Bellingham said following Sunderland’s play-off final victory.

Bellingham expressed his pride in his team mates following the play-off victory over Sheffield United, which secured promotion back to the Premier League.

“When you’ve got supporters like this and a group of lads like that, you have to believe,” Bellingham told Sky Sports. “I’m not sure what to say to you. But, yes, I always believe.

I understand why people doubted us. We dropped a couple games. People speak about momentum, but I believe we did and demonstrated enough during the season for people to give us some credit heading into the playoffs.

“And I’m aware that all of the ex-pros who speak on Sky use the term ‘inexperience’. But we’ve just proven that it doesn’t matter. Do you understand what I mean? Of course, you must have previous experience. But with youth, like at Sunderland, you play a lot of games. You gain that experience. You gain experience by failing. And we failed together numerous times. I’ve been a part of this amazing team. Every player has established a name for themselves here. So yeah, I’m pretty proud.” with photographs enjoying the triumph on social media, with many speculating whether it was a hint about his future with the club. That post linked to his words from last summer when he agreed to a contract extension, claiming that he had unfinished business at the club following a poor 16th place finish. According to sources, the midfielder was considering a difficult decision given the link that had formed between himself, the club, and the supporters, but he now appears determined to try himself at the top level next season.
