Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl appears to have had his chances of landing the Leicester City job boosted.
After drastically turning Hillsborough’s on-field fortunes around, the 36-year-old has made it clear that he intends to leave the team.
He took over a squad that was headed for League One and made them into a team that eventually flirted with the playoffs.
But given the ongoing off-field turmoil, he doesn’t seem to have a future in S6.
Possible domino effect
Sky Sports reports that Rangers is getting closer to hiring Russell Martin, the former Southampton manager.
Rohl has been connected to a number of clubs, including the Scottish powerhouses, but it doesn’t seem like he will be moving north of the border.
But a club that was reportedly pursuing Martin has also mentioned him as a possible target.
Not too long ago, Martin seemed certain to end up at Leicester, and now he appears to be getting his first taste of management outside of England.
Given that Ruud van Nistelrooy is rumored to be fired by the Foxes, Rohl may be able to join them in Leicester thanks to Rangers’ move for Martin.
Additionally, it has been hinted that Rohl would be open to the Foxes role, and it is hard to picture the German rejecting a proposal.
Sheffield Wednesday’s turmoil
Due to payment problems that are damaging the club’s name and their manager having one foot out the door, the Hillsborough supporters are once again facing difficulties.
With some suggestive remarks, Rohl has clearly put himself in the shop window and hinted at an impending departure.
He told Kicker last month: “I had a great experience at Sheffield Wednesday, personally. I’ve never concealed my desire to collaborate with the top players at the greatest level in the near future.
“Of course, the Bundesliga is taken into account. Informally, my circumstances in Sheffield are rather obvious.
“I have a clear understanding with the owner regarding my future goals. Regretfully, I am unable to discuss that in depth at this time.
