Reading FC’s New Director Alec Lundberg Speaks to Supporters After Arrival
Reading FC’s new shareholder and director Alec Lundberg has broken his silence following his arrival at the club, expressing his passion for lower league football and his ambitions for the Royals in a heartfelt message to supporters.
Lundberg, who joined the club’s board as part of the ownership restructuring led by businessman William Storey, addressed fans for the first time in an interview shared by the club on Tuesday. The newly appointed director emphasized his excitement at becoming part of Reading’s storied footballing tradition and acknowledged the challenges the club has faced in recent seasons.
“I’ve always had a deep love for English football, particularly at the grassroots and lower-league levels,” Lundberg said. “There’s a certain magic in these clubs — in the community they serve, the loyalty of the supporters, and the fight they show every week. Reading FC embodies all of that, and I’m honoured to now be part of its future.”
Lundberg’s appointment comes at a crucial time for the Berkshire club, who have been battling financial uncertainty and endured multiple points deductions in recent seasons. The club’s recent relegation to League Two capped a difficult period that has tested the patience and resolve of fans.
But the new director was keen to stress that lessons have been learned and the new regime is determined to bring stability and progress, both on and off the pitch.
“We know the last few years have been painful for supporters,” Lundberg acknowledged. “There’s no quick fix, but there is a path forward — one that’s built on financial discipline, strong leadership, and reconnecting the club with its community. The fans deserve transparency, commitment, and above all, a team they can be proud of.”
The 38-year-old businessman, who has previously worked in investment and sports consultancy, also shared insights into why he chose to become involved with Reading specifically, rather than other clubs.
“I’ve been watching Reading for years, and I always saw a club with enormous potential — a fantastic stadium, a brilliant academy, and a supporter base that never wavers,” he said. “When the opportunity came up to help steer the club back toward success, I didn’t hesitate.”
Lundberg also promised a more open line of communication between the club’s leadership and its supporters — something that fans have repeatedly called for.
“This isn’t just about financial input; it’s about accountability and building trust. I’ll be at matches, at supporter forums, and wherever else I need to be to make sure fans know they have a voice at board level. We are stewards of this club, not owners of its soul — that belongs to the supporters.”
With pre-season approaching and preparations underway for the League Two campaign, Lundberg expressed cautious optimism that the club could begin to turn a corner.
“There’s a lot of work to do, and we won’t get everything right overnight. But we’re here for the long haul. We want to build something sustainable, something worthy of Reading FC’s history — and its future.”
His message struck a hopeful tone for supporters eager to see signs of genuine leadership and long-term vision — something many feel has been lacking in recent years.
Reading fans will now be watching closely as Lundberg and the new board seek to lay the foundations for a new era at the club.
