Birmingham City release ‘world class’ statement after £2.4bn Sports Quarter announcement.

Jeremy Dale believes Birmingham City’s plans for a new stadium and east-side regeneration can now be taken ‘to the next level’. Dale, Blues’ interim CEO, has welcomed information that the Government will deliver £2.4 billion in financing to the West Midlands, with £300 million to £400 million put out for the construction of a tram link connecting the city centre to Blues’ proposed ground on the current Wheels site. Knighthead has been buying up land in the vicinity to create not only a 62,000-seater stadium, but a full Sports Quarter, which is expected to change the scenery and economics in that section of the city. ” Birmingham City Football Club has a strong history of supporting our local communities. The investment confirmed today by Richard Parker will allow us to take this to the next level – creating jobs, building infrastructure for our local community, and creating a world-class sporting venue that will put Birmingham on the map.”
The statement read: “Knighthead Capital Management, LLC, on behalf of certain of its affiliates (“Knighthead”) welcomes the West Midlands Mayor’s confirmation that the Chancellor’s multi-billion-pound investment in the region’s transport infrastructure will support the critical metro extension to Birmingham’s Sports Quarter.” “Today, ahead of the government’s Spending Review, the Chancellor will reiterate that £2.4 billion will be granted to the West Midlands Combined Authority to strengthen regional transport infrastructure.
Richard Parker, the Mayor of the West Midlands, will allocate this funds to construct a Metro extension from Birmingham City Centre to East Birmingham, so facilitating the future development of the Sports Quarter. Birmingham’s economy by 2035.
