Same agent as Edwards: Burnley keen on “priceless” star in possible new record signing

Premier League bound. Burnley are now turning their attention to the summer window, and they are interested in recruiting a Liverpool player to replace the exit-linked Maxime Esteve in a record price.

Esteve might leave Burnley this summer

The 23-year-old signed a permanent contract with the Clarets last summer after first arriving on loan six months earlier. While the Frenchman was unable to prevent Burnley from being relegated to the Championship in 2023/24, he was outstanding in this season, appearing 46 times in the Championship as Scott Parker’s side gained immediate promotion to the top flight.

Esteve started every league game, making an outstanding five clearances per game, and he not only helped Burnley keep 30 clean sheets, but he also had a 91% pass accuracy, allowing him to construct play from the back.

His efforts throughout the 2024/25 season have not gone unnoticed, with West Ham and Crystal Palace linked with a move for the defender in recent months. According to a fresh rumour from French newspaper L’Equipe, Palace has a great interest in Esteve and has made him a priority signing for the upcoming season.

However, they face competition from Bayern Munich, who are also interested, as the defender was brought to Turf Moor by manager Vincent Kompany.

Burnley interested in signing £25 million Liverpool star Gomez.

So, while Esteve is extensively associated with a transfer away from Turf Moor, the Clarets are looking for alternatives, and according to Empire of the Kop, Burnley are interested in signing Joe Gomez of Liverpool.

According to the source, Liverpool is willing to let their defender leave this summer if he expresses a desire to do so. The Premier League winners have put a £25 million price tag for Gomez, who still has two years remaining on his current contract.

Liverpool’s stand on Gomez has piqued the interest of Premier League rivals, including Burnley. However, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Everton, West Ham, Bournemouth, Leeds United, and Sunderland are all aware of his condition.

Burnley and the other teams believe they can get Gomez, who has been termed “priceless” by former Liverpool midfielder Steve McManaman, for less than the £25 million indicated. Even still, it would most likely be a record deal for the Clarets, topping the £15 million+ they paid for Zeki Amdouni.

Signing a new defender may become a high priority for the Clarets this summer if Esteve departs, and the benefit of signing a player like Gomez is that he not only has a wealth of Premier League experience, but he is also very versatile across the back four, capable of playing both full-back positions to a high level.

The one aspect that may work against Burnley is that Gomez, who has the same agency as current Burnley player Marcus Edwards, may prefer to transfer to Newcastle or Villa, which can offer European football next season.
