Ipswich Town, Sam Morsy exit fear raised and dubbed “absolute madness”

The Egyptian midfielder is eager to investigate prospects in the Middle East, and the Tractor Boys would be open to letting their captain leave for no transfer money, according to TEAMtalk.
Since signing from Middlesbrough in 2021, the 33-year-old has undoubtedly been a key player for Ipswich, leading them to consecutive promotions to the Premier League in his second and third seasons.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Season | League | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 2021/2022 | League One | 34 | 3 | 5 |
| 2022/2023 | League One | 44 | 4 | 5 |
| 2023/2024 | Championship | 42 | 3 | 6 |
| 2024/2025 | Premier League | 33 | 1 | 1 |
But after relegation and this report, the team might be prepared for a roster revamp, possibly including Morsy’s departure, as part of a new beginning under manager Kieran Mckenna.
Adam Wilkin, our Ipswich Town Fan Pundit, told FLW that he was adamantly against letting Morsy go this summer for free.
“I think letting Morsy go on a free this season would be absolute madness,” Wilkin stated to FLW.
Yes, he has had some difficulties in the Premier League, and we should focus on building for the future. However, with him gone and Luongo already free, you would be missing a lot of leadership and experience in the squad and that midfield, which is crucial, in my opinion.
There aren’t many other leaders, thus the implementation aspect of the game is crucial. Although Dara O’Shea has worn the captain’s armband a few times when Morsy was out of the Premier League, I believe his impact on the team is simply too great and difficult to replicate right away.
“It would make more sense if he left at the conclusion of his contract because you could gradually erode his leadership skills throughout the season and integrate new players.
“But for him to leave this summer – I think it would be a dreadful decision to let him go.”
With more than 150 appearances for the team, Morsy’s possible departure would undoubtedly be a significant turning point in the Tractor Boy’s return to Championship competition.
In the summer of 2024, he did sign a new contract, but as part of their larger intentions, Town is apparently willing to make it easier for him to go.
Given his ancestry, Morsy sees a move to the Middle East as a fantastic opportunity on both a financial and cultural level. Tax-free salaries and the increasing number of top players making the switch would be more appealing incentives.
However, as Wilkin’s remarks do point out, Ipswich’s immediate chances of finishing in the second division may be impacted by the timing and style of such a departure.
