Exclusive: West Brom should finalize a deal for the “hungry” Tottenham striker, according to Emile Heskey

Since Ryan Mason has taken over at The Hawthorns, former England player Emile Heskey thinks West Brom should try to sign Tottenham Hotspur attacker Dane Scarlett.

Following a six-week hunt for Tony Mowbray’s replacement, West Brom announced Mason’s employment this week. The Baggies are aiming for a total coaching makeover.

Mason will have to face the pressure and expectation of succeeding in his first full-time managing position after the Baggies were disappointed this season by missing out on a play-off spot.

West Brom will need to adjust their strategy and continue to be astute during the summer transfer window after it was revealed that they had lost £33.9 million during the 2023–24 season.

Heskey was asked if he anticipates some of their young players moving to B71, as many anticipate the former Tottenham Hotspur coach will use his connections at Spurs to recruit players.

In an exclusive interview with Football League World (via Poker Scout), Emile Heskey encouraged former Oxford United loanee Dane Scarlett to connect with the former Hull City midfielder in the West Midlands and believes Ryan Mason will be trying to raid Tottenham Hotspur for some recruits.

“It would be foolish for him not to (sign players from Spurs),

” Heskey stated. Dane Scarlett is one that immediately comes to mind. Someone like that would be great because you’re getting a hungry player who plays for the England U21s and a player who should be playing for the first team.

“You’re getting a player that understands where the net is because he has scored goals throughout his career, which is great for that caliber of club.

When West Brom was a team that alternated between the Premier League and the Championship, they always managed to bounce back up, remain up for a while, and then fall back down, but they always knew they were going to

They have a young manager and need to reestablish themselves, so it will be intriguing to see what he can bring in and what he can get out of the team. Given his strong background from the Spurs’ development structure, he must first determine what he currently has before determining how to fill in the gaps.

The West Brom striker hierarchy wouldn’t prioritize Dane Scarlett.

While on loan at Oxford United, Dane Scarlett shown his skills in spurts, scoring four goals in 20 games, including an equalizer against the Baggies in the final minute.

Scarlett is anticipated to return later this month and be prepared for preseason play after the frontman was called up from the Kassam Stadium and only made three appearances in the Premier League before needing groin surgery.

Scarlett isn’t anticipated to be selected over players like Josh Maja or Daryl Dike if they have an injury-free season, so Albion would have to ease him back into action if he signed.

If Maja and Dike wind up on the treatment table, Albion will need another striker for depth, so it doesn’t seem like a move for Scarlett would be ideal for his future unless Ryan Mason has a lot of faith in the 21-year-old.
