Newcastle United confirm teenage signing after fending off Barca and Real Madrid interest

The Magpies confirmed that Antonio Cordero, 18, would formally join the team on July 1 following the expiration of his contract with Malaga.
With 60 senior matches under his belt, the 18-year-old forward has already contributed significantly to the Andalusian team’s ability to hold onto their Segunda Division standing following their promotion the previous season.
Throughout the campaign, he recorded six goals and seven assists, drawing interest from clubs all across Europe.
Cordero’s transfer to Tyneside is contingent upon both Premier League registration and the granting of a UK visa. Following the announcement, the young Spaniard expressed his excitement about starting a new chapter in his life.
“Being here is a true honor and a true pleasure,” Cordero remarked. “I like to set lofty goals for myself. Why not do it in one of the world’s greatest locations? One of the reasons I’m here is because it’s a significant step. I’m glad to do that and am eager to get started right away.
Prior to this, Cordero was linked to a number of elite clubs, including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and numerous Premier League teams. He has also shown promise with Spain’s young national teams.
Paul Mitchell, the sporting director, is said to have been instrumental in Newcastle’s victory in the competition for his services.
With the chance to make his first team debut in the upcoming seasons, Cordero is viewed by the Magpies as a long-term investment.
