Magpies Land Young Winger from Malaga on Free Transfer

Newcastle United have officially unveiled their first signing of the summer, bringing in Spanish U19 international Antonio Cordero on a free transfer from Malaga CF.

The 18-year-old winger will officially become a Newcastle player on July 1, once his current contract with the Spanish side expires. The move reflects the club’s ongoing focus on youth recruitment and long-term development under sporting director Paul Mitchell.

Rising Talent with Strong Numbers in Spain

Cordero, who was part of Malaga’s senior squad last season, recorded seven goals and nine assists in 60 appearances. Despite the team finishing 16th in the Segunda Division, following promotion from the third tier, Cordero emerged as a bright spot—earning interest from clubs across Spain and mainland Europe.

Player Reaction: Cordero Speaks on Ambition

In his first words as a Magpie, Cordero expressed his excitement about the move and his ambitions for the future.

“It’s truly an honour to be here, truly a pleasure. I have a great desire to get going already. I am a person who likes to aspire high. Why not come to one of the best places in the world to do it?”

Club Statement: Mitchell Confirms Long-Term Vision

Newcastle’s new sporting director Paul Mitchell praised the acquisition, describing Cordero as a player with immense promise.

“Antonio is an exciting talent. We’re delighted to bring him to Newcastle United amidst interest in Spain and across Europe.”

While Cordero will link up with the club this summer, it is expected that he will be sent out on loan to gain further experience before pushing for a place in the first team at St James’ Park.
