Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday will start the 2025–26 season in very different moods. United is trying to move past the hurt of losing to Sunderland in the play-off final, while Wednesday is unsure of their future following a somewhat chaotic season finale.
For Championship clubs, particularly those not receiving Premier League parachute payments, season ticket sales are a significant source of income.
Sheffield United is still receiving these payments despite only being demoted at the end of the 2023–2024 season; however, the amount they will receive for the 2025–2026 campaign will be less. However, Sheffield Wednesday begins the season at a disadvantage to those who receive them because they are one of the majority of clubs that do not.
Sheffield United season ticket prices have not been significantly hiked
In mid-March, Sheffield United made their 2025–2026 season ticket prices public. The club wanted to make sure that money was pouring in before the summer transfer action began, thus these were early bird pricing that were to be held until May 2.
For the next season, Bramall Lane’s cheapest season ticket had an early bird price of £426. Although the price has since gone up to £514.50, the club will have been anticipating that supporters would take advantage of the promotion, which was in effect until the beginning of May.

Sheffield Wednesday season tickets remain among the most expensive in the Championship
The method Sheffield Wednesday sells season tickets is a little different; the prices are first made available and then go up over the second half of the season.
£460 was the first lowest baseline price, however it was only offered from December to January. With the expiration of all early bird discounts, Hillsborough’s season tickets are now the second most costly in the Championship, with the lowest price being £576, up from £560 for the 2024–2025 campaign.
The price of Wednesday’s season tickets has long been a source of criticism. Given the ambiguity around the club’s future course brought on by the question of whether Danny Rohl will still be in his role at the beginning of the following season and problems with timely wage payments that have led to fines from the EFL, that seems all the more blatant this year.
By the beginning of the 2025–2026 season, Hillsborough’s troubles are probably not going to be resolved. Although Sheffield United supporters were frustrated that the team did not return to the Premier League at the end of the 2024–2025 season, United’s problems are not comparable to those of their cross-city rivals right now.
