Newcastle United have released their official retained list, outlining which senior players will remain on Tyneside, whose futures are still under discussion, and who is moving on this summer.

Contract Negotiations Ongoing for Wilson and Ruddy

The club confirmed that Callum Wilson and John Ruddy will both be out of contract on 30 June but stressed that talks are under way to keep them at St James’ Park on fresh—likely reduced—terms.

“Callum Wilson and John Ruddy are set to be out of contract at the end of June, however the club has opened discussions with both players about their futures and new contracts could still be agreed.”

Even with negotiations active, both men remain expected to depart. Wilson, who has 49 goals in 130 appearances since signing from Bournemouth in 2020, recently admitted he struggled with life as back-up to Alexander Isak and has been tipped for moves to Leeds United, Wrexham, and Birmingham City. Ruddy, meanwhile, served as third-choice keeper last term, making the Premier League bench 11 times without playing a competitive minute.

Two Exits Confirmed: Lewis Released, Kelly Deal Made Permanent

  • Jamal Lewis will leave on a free once his deal expires, bringing an injury-blighted five-year stint (just 36 appearances) to an end.

  • Lloyd Kelly’s loan to Juventus converts into a permanent transfer on 30 June for an undisclosed fee—believed to be close to £20 million—delivering Newcastle a tidy windfall.

Gillespie Stays; Rest of First-Team Squad Retained

Back-up goalkeeper Mark Gillespie remains at the club after an option in his contract was triggered. Newcastle also noted recent extensions for Fabian Schär, Emil Krafth, and Dan Burn, ensuring defensive continuity.

Club Statement Thanks Departing Players

Newcastle’s announcement closed by expressing gratitude to all who are moving on:

“Newcastle United extends a sincere thank you to all players leaving the club this summer and wishes them the best for the next step in their careers.”

In addition to the men’s senior update, retained lists for Newcastle United Women have been posted, while the academy roster will follow shortly.

What Comes Next?

  • Wilson & Ruddy: Continued discussions; departures still likely unless compromise is reached.

  • Incoming Business: Extra funds from Kelly’s sale could strengthen Eddie Howe’s summer budget as the Magpies target reinforcements.

  • Youth & Women Updates: Further announcements on academy and women’s squads expected soon.

Newcastle supporters now await fresh transfer developments, but the retained list offers the first clear picture of how the squad is being reshaped for the 2025/26 campaign.
