The University of Sunderland in London has awarded Clyde Best MBE, a former West Ham striker and the first black football celebrity of the modern TV era, an Honorary Doctorate of Sport.

Clyde scored more than 58 goals in more than 200 games during his eight-year career at West Ham FC, which is headquartered in the East London borough that is next to the university.
When Clyde moved to East London from his home of Bermuda in 1968 at the age of 17, it was “a dream come true” for him. He played with Bobby Moore and other England World Cup greats.
