Plymouth’s Dan Grimshaw completes Norwich City transfer

Norwich City have completed the signing of Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Dan Grimshaw.

The 27-year-old has agreed to a three-year contract at Carrow Road through 2028 and joined the Canaries for an unknown sum, estimated to be £600,000.

In an effort to restructure that department, City announced last month that Jacob Wright would be joining permanently. Grimshaw is the second addition of the summer.

Grimshaw expressed his excitement over the move to the club’s official channels. I’ve been aware of the interest for a short time, and as soon as I learned about it, I was eager to visit because it’s a large club with lofty goals, which aligned with my goals.

“I’ve heard great things about the crowd, and both times I’ve performed here, the atmosphere was incredible.

“I believe that this year will be quite significant for us. Our goal is to push for both promotion and the playoffs. I’m here to give it my all, and maybe we can accomplish that together.”

“I’m delighted to welcome Dan and his family to Norwich City,” said Ben Knapper, director of sports.

“His profile fits well with our style of play, and he will bring a lot of quality and competitiveness to our goalkeeping group.

“We’re pleased to get it over the line early and look forward to him joining up with us in pre-season.”

It is believed that the Manchester City young player will take over as City’s deputy goalkeeper. After Angus Gunn left at the end of the previous campaign, efforts are still underway to find a replacement number one.

He previously worked with Liam Manning while on loan at Lommel, a team in Belgium, where the new City manager was in charge for the 2020–21 season. Under the Canaries manager, Grimshaw made ten appearances.

Grimshaw, who made 22 appearances for the Pilgrims before joining City, gave up 51 goals for the demoted Championship team, who allowed the most goals in the division the previous season.

Grimshaw, who was born in Salford, joined Manchester City as a youth but never played for the ten-time Premier League winners as a senior. In a League Cup triumph over Burton Albion in 2019, he made his lone appearance in the starting lineup as an unutilized replacement.

Periods of loan at non-league Grimshaw ended his lengthy affiliation with Manchester City by joining Blackpool on a free transfer after Hemel Hempstead and Lommel.

Grimshaw made 96 appearances during his three years at Bloomfield Road, 44 of which were in the Championship. After competing with captain Chris Maxwell for the starting shirt, he emerged as the clear favorite in 2023–2024, appearing in every league game but one and recording 18 clean sheets.

Due to his performance, Grimshaw was transferred to Plymouth Argyle last summer, when he filled in for Conor Hazard.

When City returns for preseason later this month, the 27-year-old will join their goalkeeping staff and collaborate closely with goalkeeping coach Tony Roberts.
