Aberdeen sign German youth international left-back from FC Schalke 04 on four-year deal.

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin praises the “dynamic” left-back after making his third summer signing, Emmanuel Gyamfi.
Emmanuel Gyamfi, Aberdeen’s versatile new recruit, has stated that he can play as a full-back or winger on either side of the pitch. The 20-year-old also claims he has the physical and mental strength to deal with the pressure of juggling Scottish domestic duties and Euroleague play. Aberdeen has signed German youth international Gyamfi on a four-year contract from FC Schalke 04. Gyamfi has been signed for an unknown amount by the Reds, subject to international clearance and visa requirements. The dynamic full-back is confident he can add power, pace, and dribbling ability to Aberdeen.
Gyamfi is strong, fast and can dribble
The full-back earned vital senior experience while on loan with VVV-Venlo in the Eerste Divisie, the Dutch second tier, during the 2024-2025 season. He made 30 appearances for VVV-Venlo. Gyamfi remarked, “Scottish football will be intense, so I’ll be physically and mentally prepared. “I can play on either the left or right side, as a winger or fullback. “I’m hoping that playing in different spots would help. “I am strong, swift, and can dribble. “I just want to get a good pre-season and get going when we start back.” During his season-long loan with Schalke partner club VVV Venlo, the new Dons acquisition was largely employed as a left-back.
Gyamfi’s dream to play in Europe
During his loan, he was also used as a right back, left midfielder, left winger, and right winger. Gyamfi is Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin’s third signing of the summer, as he looks to build on his Scottish Cup victory. Australian winger Nicolas Milanovic was signed for roughly £400,000 from A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers.
“Obviously, it’s a dream to perform in Europe on that stage. “There is a chance for the Europa League and, most definitely, the Conference League. “It can be difficult, but we will be prepared as a squad after a solid preseason. “We have nothing to worry about. “Now that everything is sorted, I can focus on pre-season and I’m going to work hard in the next few weeks before training starts.”
Inspired by Dons fans at cup final
Gyamfi believes he was motivated by Aberdeen’s 20,000 fans during their Scottish Cup victory at Hampden. And he hopes to assist the Dons win more silverware under manager Thelin.
New signing’s career trajectory
He advanced through Schalke’s youth divisions before becoming a regular at the U23 level. Gyamfi appeared in 21 games for Schalke U23s in the German fourth tier. VVV-Venlo was impressed by his U23 performances and offered him a loan.

Gyamfi stated, “I played for Fortuna Dusseldorf at the U15 level before receiving an offer from Schalke, a major club in my hometown. “I did a try out for them when I was nine but they didn’t pick me, so it was good to hear they wanted me the second time. “It was good going to the U16 since I knew a lot of the guys, and the connections went really quickly.
