Strategic restructuring’ for Luton’s recruitment department as Tracy rejoins Town from Lincoln

Mick Harford, a club legend, will take up a new position at Kenilworth Road.

A “strategic restructuring” of Luton Town’s recruitment department has been revealed, with Marc Tracy, the former head of academy operations, rejoining the team as chief scout.

Yousuf Sajjad and Jay Socik will now lead the recruitment department after former head scout Phil Chapple recently left Kenilworth Road to rejoin former Hatters manager Nathan Jones at Charlton Athletic. Club legend Mick Harford has taken on a new dual role as senior scout and club ambassador.

Sajjad joined the team less than a year ago as player recruitment manager, having previously served as head of emerging talent at Arsenal, lead recruitment analyst at Chelsea, and technical director for 18 months at Eerste Divisie club Den Bosch in the Netherlands.

Socik joined the team in February 2021 as head of recruitment analysis.

After leaving Bedfordshire, Tracy served as chief scout for Cambridge United and Lincoln City before joining Kenilworth Road for a second stint.

According to a club statement,”We are pleased to confirm a strategic restructuring of the club’s recruitment department ahead of the new season.

” We have reorganized important roles and added new duties to the team as part of these adjustments.

These adjustments are intended to improve the club’s data-driven strategy for finding players that fit with our long-term objectives, playing philosophy, and club culture.

Yousuf Sajjad, Player Recruitment Manager, and Jay Socik, Head of Recruitment Analysis, will lead the department. Marc Tracy, our recently hired Chief Scout, will assist the two. Marc returns for a second stint after serving as head of academy operations for six months during our non-league days.

After joining Cambridge in 2015, where he led the U’s recruitment team for three years, he moved on to Lincoln, where he was appointed chief scout in 2018.

Marc assisted in spotting the talent that enabled the Imps advance as League Two champions in his first season there and solidify their place in League One over the next six.

Marc will work alongside Club Scout Alexander Wilkinson and get assistance from the club’s expanded scouting network, which has been improved, reassessed, and updated in advance of the season.

“We’re thrilled to announce this new development in our recruitment structure and believe we have a team that combines intricate knowledge with a sharp eye for emerging talent,” said Chief Executive Gary Sweet. Together, Yousuf, Jay, Marc, and Mick will help us find players who align with our club’s ideals and football philosophy. Each of them brings a distinct set of skills to the table. Since they have been leading our recruitment efforts since January, Jay and Yousuf have both proven their worth in recent months, and they both merit the chance to take the lead in our squad reorganization.

Marc’s return to Kenilworth Road is greatly appreciated. In addition to being a well regarded scout with a wealth of information, he is also Luton, so he is familiar with our culture and, more importantly, knows the kind of player who will succeed and fit in. Lastly, even though Mick is taking a brief break from his daily responsibilities, his continuous participation guarantees that we will always have all that is uniquely Mick, including his extensive knowledge of what makes a player and his passion and commitment to Luton Town.
