Jones signs new five-year Charlton contract.

Nathan Jones, the manager of Charlton Athletic, has agreed to a new five-year deal with the recently promoted Championship team.
The 52-year-old Welshman led the Addicks to promotion through the League One play-off final that took place last month.
The vacant position at newly relegated Cardiff City had been connected to the former manager of Southampton, Luton Town, and Stoke City.
Jones led them away from relegation danger after joining The Valley in February 2024 on what was then referred to as a “long-term” contract.
He guided Charlton to fourth place in League One this season, seven points behind second-place Wrexham, before defeating Leyton Orient 1-0 at Wembley to put the Addicks back in the second division following a five-year hiatus.
Jones’s extended contracts, which keep him at the south London club until 2030, are a reward for his achievements.

Jones stated on the club website, “I’m extremely proud and delighted,” external
“I still had three years left, but since I love the club, it meant a lot to me that they wanted to continue that journey with me.
“We’ve just taken one big step, but that’s only one big step – we still have a long way to go to achieve our goals and I’m glad that I’ll continue to work towards that.”
Jones had mixed results in his prior positions before joining Charlton.
Before departing for Stoke City in January 2019, he guided Luton to League One. However, he failed to make an impression in the Potteries and was fired nine months later.
Jones returned to Luton in May 2020, and he laid the groundwork for the team that was promoted to the Premier League a year later by leading them to the Championship play-off semi-finals in 2022.
He left in November 2022 for a disastrous three-month stint with Southampton in the Premier League, when he was fired after the Saints lost seven of Jones’ eight league games as manager, dropping them to the bottom of the league.
However, as he gets ready for the Addicks’ comeback to the second division, he has once more found success at Charlton.
“We have a really cohesive group forming at Charlton – from the players and coaching staff to the wider team behind the scenes and of course our supporters,” stated chairman Gavin Carter.
“Our success on the pitch this season indicates that we are ahead of schedule in our long-term planning for the club, and Nathan has been a crucial component of that togetherness.
Nathan shares our aspirations for where we want to go and is aware of the club’s principles. Having him on board for the long haul makes us very happy.
