Oli McBurnie, a former striker for Sheffield United, has been linked to a move.
Journalist Alan Nixon stated on his Patreon page that the two parties might get back together this summer following McBurnie’s current team, Las Palmas, being demoted from La Liga. The 28-year-old would be making an emotional comeback, but Rhian Brewster, one of the Blades‘ current strikers, may suffer as a result of the connection.
Brewster’s contract at Bramall Lane has ended, and although he is still in talks with the team about his future, the former Liverpool player will not benefit by acquiring another first-team striker.
McBurnie might be returning to the Blades.
Many will be shocked that McBurnie is returning to the Yorkshire club so soon, just as it surprised some when he ended himself in La Liga with Las Palmas after leaving Bramall Lane last summer.
However, if the Spanish team cannot escape relegation, they will have to let go of some of their most costly players. According to Capology,
McBurnie is the club’s joint-third-highest paid player, earning €40,000 a week. A transfer fee would probably be necessary because he signed a three-year contract with Las Palmas, but given their recent relegation, he might be available for less.
He will still probably be a big investment based just on pay, though, and the amount that could be spent indicates that the Blades are not placing all of their hopes in Brewster.
Brewster is in a challenging situation.
It is undeniable that Brewster has fallen short of the expectations surrounding his initial £23.5 million transfer from Liverpool in 2020.
At the time, he agreed to a five-year contract, and he has stayed at Bramall Lane ever since. In his 119 games for the team, he has only managed nine goals and four assists.
However, the fact that he recently finished his greatest season ever with the Blades, scoring four goals and dishing out three assists in the Championship, has not gone unnoticed by many at the club. Instead of taking steps to remove Brewster from the pay bill, United is currently negotiating a new contract with him.
Nevertheless, their curiosity about McBurnie reveals something about the kind of contribution they anticipate from Brewster.
Even with Chris Wilder’s support, Brewster may be ready for a change ofpace.
Despite Brewster’s lackluster performance during his long contract, Blades manager Chris Wilder seems eager to keep him with the team.
“We have to be sensible with contract discussions; we have to do what’s right for us as a football club and Rhian has to do what’s right for himself,
” Wilder said in an April interview that was reported by The Star.
However, based on his response, his behavior, and his attitude toward everything, I would like to believe that he wants to remain here. He has never knocked on my door and expressed his desire to go.
No player, in my opinion, doesn’t see his immediate or medium-term future at Sheffield United.
However, as everyone is aware, contract negotiations can get very complex. We hope we can reach an arrangement, and we want the boy to stay if he wants to. It’s about as good as Wilder could have been in expressing his opinions about the striker at the news conference without actually signing him. However, as Wilder stated, Brewster now needs to think about what’s best for him.
Would he be able to realize his full potential in a new setting with new players and a new challenge?
If players like McBurnie are signed, will he fall back in the hierarchy? Brewster needs to ask himself these questions.
The Blades will undoubtedly benefit from signing McBurnie, but the connection will undoubtedly give Brewster a lot to consider at this crucial juncture in his career.
