Kilmarnock’s Player of the Year Joe Wright becomes latest to leave as he secures Bradford City move.

Joe Wright, a defender who signed a two-year contract with Bradford City of English League One, is the most recent player to announce their departure from Kilmarnock.

The 30-year-old centre-back, who previously played for Huddersfield Town and Doncaster Rovers before relocating north of the line, is making his Yorkshire comeback with a deal to the recently promoted Bantams.

Following a series of outstanding performances in the centre of defence, Wright was voted Killie’s Player of the Year for the 2024–2025 campaign. Additionally, he scored the game-winning goal on the road at Tromso to help the team defeat the Norwegians in the third qualifying round of the Europa Conference League in August.

“After my hundred-plus games in Scotland and playing in Europe against sides like Copenhagen and Cercle Brugge, it helped me become a better player and a leader,” Wright stated in an interview with the Bradford City official website following the announcement of the deal.

“Although I have encountered sizable crowds in Scotland, I am thrilled to perform in front of 20,000 spectators at the University of Bradford Stadium.

“I hope I can help build a culture where we keep expecting to win and look to take on League One, as well as help the club maintain the momentum from last season.”

This summer, Wright is the fourth player to formally leave the team. While winger Danny Armstrong also declared his departure earlier this week but hasn’t secured his next destination, strikers Bobby Wales and Innes Cameron have both headed south of the border, joining Swansea City and Barrow, respectively.
