Magpies Interested in Out-of-Favour Man City Star as Loan Option Only
Newcastle United are reportedly prepared to offer Jack Grealish a way out of his Manchester City nightmare — but only if the deal comes in the form of a season-long loan.
The £100 million winger, currently earning £300,000 per week, appears to have no future under Pep Guardiola after a tough 2024–25 season and could be offloaded this summer.
While Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is said to be interested, the club has no plans to pursue a permanent transfer due to Grealish’s massive salary and recent struggles. Instead, they’d consider a loan arrangement — especially if Anthony Gordon attracts concrete offers and departs St. James’ Park.

Man City May Need to Subsidise Wages
Even a loan move could prove difficult for most clubs, given the size of Grealish’s salary. As a result, Manchester City may need to cover a portion of his wages to make any deal viable.
Reports indicate that the club is resigned to taking a £60 million hit on their record signing, with no serious buyers willing to pay a full fee or match his weekly earnings.
Signs of Frustration Emerge on Social Media
Tensions between Grealish and Guardiola have reportedly grown in recent weeks. The winger was left out of City’s FIFA Club World Cup squad and didn’t feature in the FA Cup final, where 19-year-old Claudio Echeverri was preferred instead.
In response to criticism of that decision from former teammate Gabby Agbonlahor, who suggested the snub felt “personal,” Grealish commented on talkSPORT’s Instagram post, writing:
“What u want me to do, score a hatty in 20?”
— referencing his limited substitute appearances.
Agbonlahor had argued that Guardiola was being intentionally cold to push Grealish out, a sentiment that many fans and pundits are beginning to echo.
City’s Summer Overhaul Continues
Grealish isn’t the only senior player possibly on the way out at the Etihad. Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, and John Stones could all be moving on this summer as Guardiola looks to refresh his squad.
Incoming transfers are already lined up:
-
Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan – £46.2 million
-
Rayan Cherki from Lyon – £30 million
-
Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves – £34 million
City are aiming to complete these deals ahead of their pre-season tour, adding further competition and reinforcing the view that Grealish’s chapter at City is all but closed.
