Contact made: Sheffield Utd make clear they now want to sign “unbelievable” star ahead of rivals

Sheffield United are looking to rebuild after missing out on promotion to the top division, and they have made contact to sign a player who is thriving in the EFL, according to reports.

The Blades will still be reeling from their EFL Championship playoff final defeat to Sunderland last month, but there is plenty of potential at Bramall Lane as they prepare for another promotion push next season.

Nonetheless, Sheffield United officials are thought to be debating whether to fire Chris Wilder after a disappointing end to their push for Premier League football, with no decision yet made on whether he will still be in command by the time pre-season begins.

Despite opposing perspectives, BBC reporter Nick Staton feels Wilder deserves to lead the Blades into 2025/26 and that criticism of the man in charge is just unfounded.

“Wilder is United’s best-ever manager. This is not to disparage Dave Bassett’s tremendous effort, but the game has changed. Football has never been more competitive or dominated by money.

“A manager’s job is more difficult than it was 30 years ago. Considerably so, in my opinion. Even in loss, Wilder deserves recognition. There’s no one better to get things started again next season.”

Time moves on, and so does the focus of a specific club. Sheffield United have already identified free agency forward Emil Riis Jakobsen as a target, demonstrating that arrangements have already been made regardless of who is in charge.

Continuing the theme, the Blades are interested in bringing a versatile talent to Yorkshire with only one year left on his present contract.

Sheffield United makes contact to sign Ethan Galbraith.

According to Football Insider, Sheffield United have made contact with Leyton Orient about signing Ethan Galbraith after expressing an interest in the Northern Ireland international.

Swansea City are also reportedly interested in the versatile 24-year-old, who can play right-back, centre midfield, or on either flank.

Richie Wellens described the Manchester United academy graduate as “unbelievable” when he helped his team reach the playoff final before Charlton Athletic defeated them, and his ability to function in a variety of roles has piqued interest on the market.

Galbraith, who has four caps for Northern Ireland, is coveted by at least one other undisclosed second-tier team and may be an inexpensive option given his contractual position.

However, it appears that Wilder’s future will have to be decided before the Blades can move forward with this one. Hopefully, a conclusion in that regard can be made sooner rather than later.
