Birmingham City ‘Have Expressed Their Interest’ In Attacker

According to journalist Anthony Joseph, Birmingham City ‘had expressed their interest’ in signing a winger desired by a number of clubs.

Blues broke League One records this season and are returning to the Championship with considerable energy. They are expected to follow in the footsteps of Ipswich Town and gain immediate promotion to the Premier League.

Birmingham are likely to significantly boost Chris Davies’ side in the coming weeks, and they have now set their sights on the Netherlands.

They have ‘expressed their interest’ in NEC Nijmegen winger Sontje Hansen, whom Burnley attempted to sign during the winter transfer window.

Birmingham are just one of several clubs interested in the 23-year-old, however. He appeared in 31 of NEC’s 34 Eredivisie games and scored 10 goals throughout the season.

Hansen scored two goals against Ajax and once against Feyenoord.

A transfer to St Andrew’s could appeal to the former Netherlands Under-21 international, but Birmingham will need to agree on a fee with the NEC.

The winger is now under contract with the Dutch team for another two years.

Birmingham recently received funds from the sale of Romelle Donovan to Premier League side Brentford, which netted the Blues £3 million.

The club is also willing to let Marc Leonard leave St Andrew’s, with a loan transfer for the midfielder, who has Championship suitors.

It remains to be seen whether the Blues will be able to sign NEC attacker Hansen, who has represented the Netherlands at several junior levels.
