QPR warned against “embarrassing” Ashley Cole appointment – there “would be uproar”

Despite Marti Cifuentes’ continued formal leadership of the team, Queens Park Rangers are now looking for a new manager.

Cifuentes was placed on gardening leave by QPR in April, ahead of the season’s last game, after his representatives reportedly met with West Bromwich Albion about their open managerial position.

Ryan Mason, an assistant for Tottenham Hotspur, has since taken over at The Hawthorns, and it was later revealed that Cifuentes was not on the Baggies’ shortlist of candidates to succeed Tony Mowbray. However, the saga has made the Spaniard’s position at Loftus Road untenable, and his departure is anticipated to be confirmed soon.

The R’s were linked to former Lyon manager Pierre Sage during a lengthy managerial search, but he was later selected Lens’s new manager. Meanwhile, former Nottingham City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup reportedly declined the position after speaking with the team.

Although former Hoops winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has stated that his former Chelsea teammate Ashley Cole would be a “unbelievable” pick for the club, French coach Julien Stephan and Randers manager Rasmus Bertelsen are both reportedly on QPR’s radar.

Cole is currently a national coach with the FA, but he has never held a managerial position. He has worked as a backroom staff member at Derby County, Chelsea, Everton and Birmingham City, and he also helped Lee Carsley last year when he was temporarily in charge of the senior England team.

Shaun Wright-Phillips’ audacious Ashley Cole comments received a QPR response.

When asked about Cole’s probable hiring, FLW’s QPR fan analyst Louis Moir warned that there would be supporter protests if the 44-year-old took charge at Loftus Road, and he chastised Wright-Phillips for even putting his name forward.

“I think Shaun Wright-Phillips is only hinting at the fact that Ashley Cole would do well a Championship managerial role because he’s his mate and a former team-mate,” Louis told The Football Writer.

“He’s probably just trying to get him a job and get his name out there, but to be honest, I think it’s quite embarrassing, particularly for QPR.

“For obvious reasons, Ashley Cole would not be among the names that come to mind when thinking of QPR.

“I would not consider hiring him even if he was one of the only managers available; he is just too risky.

“He simply would not fit at QPR. “He’s already loathed by QPR fans, and I wouldn’t support him at all.

“If that happened, or if someone affiliated with Chelsea was appointed, there would be outrage.

“It would simply be embarrassing.

“He has no managerial experience, but he does have some coaching experience, so he should probably start at a smaller club and work his way up.”

“That must be one of the most embarrassing ideas for QPR’s manager that I’ve ever heard.

“There’s no way it would happen, and I think if it was to happen, the response from the fan base would be something that you’ve never really seen before.”

QPR must not consider the controversial Ashley Cole move.

As Louis’ emphatic statements indicate, Cole would not be welcomed by the QPR faithful, thus the club should avoid appointing the ex-Chelsea defender.

It should be noted that speculation about Cole taking over at Loftus Road stems solely from Wright-Phillips’ comments, rather than the club’s genuine interest in him, and it is likely that the former R’s winger is simply circulating his former teammate’s name as he seeks to launch his managerial career.

Cole, who has coached at a number of Premier League and Championship clubs, as well as the England national team, appears to be on track to become a number one at some point in the future, but not with the Hoops.
