Sheff Wed payment delays ‘unacceptable’ – PFA.

The deferral of wage payments for Sheffield Wednesday players and staff in May has been declared “unacceptable” by the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA).

Payment was due on May 30, and the English Football League charged the team and its owner, Dejphon Chansiri, with repeated payment-related breaches, resulting in a registration embargo. It has been eight days since the Championship team spoke on the subject, when they made a statement saying they “seek a resolution regarding outstanding salaries due for the month of May at the earliest possible opportunity”. “Continued and ongoing delays to player and staff wages are unacceptable and need to be addressed without further delay,” according to a statement issued by the PFA.

“Ultimately, players and staff are like any other group of employees; they should be entitled to expect their employers to pay their wages on time and to uphold the terms of their contracts. “When this does not occur, it has a huge impact on the professional and personal lives of players, coaches, and their families. “The uncertainty it causes is made worse when there appears to be a lack of clear communication regarding the reason these issues are occurring and when payments can be expected.” This is the second time this year that the club has experienced payment issues, following the payment of March salary on April 7.

BBC Radio Sheffield have requested an interview with Chansiri.
