Murray Wallace, who was released by Millwall at the end of the 2024–25 season, is reportedly being pursued by Bradford City and Blackpool.
Murray is definitely on Bradford City‘s radar as they try to bolster their team for the next summer at a higher level after being promoted to League One at the end of the 2024–2025 season.
However, Blackpool, another League One team, has also expressed interest in Bradford, so they might not be the only team after him.
Bradford is’showing greater zeal in the pursuit’ to get Wallace to sign.
Both Bradford and Blackpool are interested in signing Wallace, who was let go by Millwall at the end of the 2024–2025 season after seven years with the team, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
However, Bradford could have a leg up in the competition to sign Wallace. Nixon claims that the defender is “willing to return to the area” after playing for Huddersfield Town earlier in his career. Additionally, he affirms that Bradford is currently “showing more determination in the chase” for his signature.
Any League One team would benefit from Wallace’s years of EFL expertise.
Given that Wallace is a player with years of experience playing at a level above League One, Bradford’s move for him is characterised as “ambitious.”
Prior to joining Scunthorpe United, he made just 60 appearances for Huddersfield over four seasons after initially joining from Falkirk in 2012.
His tenure at Millwall, where he made more than 200 games, is what made him most famous. He signed a new contract at the end of the 2021–22 season, which ends at the end of June, and was named their Player of the Season during that season, when the Lions finished ninth in the Championship, six points off of a play-off spot.
However, it became evident by the 2024–2025 season that he had dropped in the hierarchy at The Den, as manager Alex Neil’s favourite centre defence tandem was Jake Cooper and Japhet Tanganga.
Wallace was only 32 years old at the beginning of the season, so it was never conceivable that he would want to stay anyplace where his first team appearances would grow more irregular. However, Millwall’s decision to cut him at the end of the 2024–2025 season took this decision out of his hands.
His rumoured desire to go back to West Yorkshire says a lot about the thinking behind the choices that players make. The decision-making process takes into account factors like game time and pay, but quality of life is also crucial. If Wallace is comfortable and understands the area, Bradford may have a significant edge over Blackpool in the race for his services.
Any League One team would undoubtedly benefit from his years of EFL experience, and Bradford‘s goals could even be as high as the player’s.
