The latest Leeds United news amid speculation on Chris Wilder and his Sheffield United future.
Sheffield United, Leeds United’s promotion rivals, are reportedly set to cut ways with manager Chris Wilder following the club’s failure to gain promotion back to the Premier League.
Throughout the season, the Whites competed fiercely with the Blades for the two automatic promotion slots. Leeds finally won the championship, with Burnley finishing second and both scoring 100 points, ten more than Sheffield United in third place.
Wilder’s team had to settle for a place in the play-offs. After defeating Bristol City 6-0 on aggregate in the semi-final, they faced Sunderland in the final at Wembley Stadium.
Despite taking the lead and being the superior team in the first half, the Blades were pushed back. Sunderland won 2-1 thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Tom Watson, and they now play in the Premier League.
According to recent reports, Wilder’s position as manager is in serious jeopardy. According to the Telegraph, senior authorities will hold a recruitment meeting on Tuesday, during which a call may be made.
According to reports, the club’s new owners, American-based Consortium COH Sports, want to name a new manager before the start of pre-season.
Sky Sports reports that Wilder’s situation is currently being examined, although there is still a’split’ on their board. Some members want to remain with Wilder, while others believe a change should be implemented.
If they decide to fire their manager, it will mark the end of his second term at the club. He returned to Bramall Lane in December 2023.
