“Serious lack of intent” – The Venky’s blasted as Blackburn Rovers star linked with Derby County switch

The Venky’s are criticized for their “serious lack of intent” after a Blackburn Rovers player was connected to a Derby County transfer.

Blackburn, who missed the playoffs on goal differential two seasons prior, finished seventh again this past season.

After losing to Sunderland the previous season, it was anticipated that Rovers would improve in 2023–2024. However, the team saw a significant decline and was now fighting for a spot at the bottom of the table.

After a season similar to the one two years earlier, in which they spent the bulk of the season in a play-off slot, the club’s attention is now on preventing a recurrence of 2023–2024 and building on this season.

But according to exclusive claims from Football League World, captain Lewis Travis might be leaving the team soon as he is linked to Championship newcomers Wrexham or possibly even joining John Eustace at Derby County again.

According to Simon Middlehurst, a Blackburn fan commentator for FLW, this is a step in the wrong direction, and approving a move would infuriate the fan base.

In response to the topic of how much Lewis Travis would be missed if Blackburn Rovers were to sell him this summer, Middlehurst stated: “Obviously, he’s the club captain, he was massive for us last season and has been a key part of the club in the past three years, so to sell him would be one huge blow.”

It would be disappointing to lose a player who rose through the academy to become the team’s captain and made more than 250 appearances to another Championship team. It would be considered an even greater blow to lose him to Derby County.

After leaving Ewood Park in February with the team in the top six to join a Rams team that was 16 spots behind Blackburn at the time, it appears that his former captain is now pursuing him to his new team.

Middlehurst added: “The club need to keep fans onside, so to sell him to Derby would be a massive blow in doing that, given what happened last season with Eustace.”

“Obviously, their story is well-known, but to sell Travis at all just shows the wrong direction the club is going in,” he stated in reference to the links with Wrexham.

“I personally think it shows a serious lack of intent, and it wouldn’t go down well with the fans whatsoever.”

On November 5, Blackburn Rovers will celebrate its 150th anniversary, and the Rovers supporters would want nothing more than to mark this significant occasion by competing for a spot in the top six in the Championship once more.

However, before a ball is even thrown this season, hostility may already permeating Ewood Park due to rumors that their captain was sold.

“For us, this is a huge season. We want to build on last season and qualify for the playoffs because it’s the club’s 150th anniversary,” Middlehurst stated.

“I just think that it shows a massive lack of direction to sell him.”

When Travis was loaned out to Ipswich Town for the second half of the 2022–2023 season in pursuit of greater playing time, it appeared as though his time at Blackburn was coming to an end. Alongside Sondre Tronstad, he has returned this season and established himself as a vital member of the midfield.

However, John Eustace was the one who brought him back into the squad. The 27-year-old is a great fan of the current Derby manager, and if the results of the previous season are any indication, Blackburn’s superior league position might not be enough to keep him from leaving.

And it might not be long before Blackburn’s standing as a team vying for a spot in the playoffs begins to wane if he does leave for Eustace’s Rams or for a fat salary at Wrexham.
