Millwall exit quickly followed by free transfer move for ex-Barnsley and Middlesbrough goalkeeper.

Former Barnsley and Middlesbrough custodian Liam Roberts has made a swift comeback to football after leaving Millwall.
Middlesbrough dismissed the 30-year-old last year, after he spent the last year of his Riverside contract on loan. He had been loaned by Barnsley and was the first choice custodian at Oakwell for the remainder of the 2023/24 season. Millwall signed the custodian last year, and he served as an understudy in the Championship last season. Talks about extending his one-year contract were held, but no new terms were reached, and he left earlier this week.

New move for Liam Roberts
Roberts has joined League One club Mansfield Town, signing a two-year contract at the One Call Stadium. Stags manager Nigel Clough stated, “We wanted a first-choice custodian, and we believe Liam fits the bill well. He has played against us in the past, and we have been really impressed with him. “He has both Championship experience and extensive League One experience. He’s at a wonderful age, and we’re thrilled to have him as our number one.” Mansfield have also acquired Kyle Knoyle, a former Doncaster Rovers defender, from League One rivals Stockport County.

Liam Roberts’ Millwall farewell
In a farewell statement after leaving The Den, Roberts said: “As I say goodbye to Millwall, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the fans, my teammates, and the entire staff. “It has been a true honour to represent this club over the last year and play in front of such a dedicated fan base. Sharing the locker room with such a talented bunch of guys has been an honour. “My family and I had amazing support during one of the most terrible moments in our life, and we will never forget the generosity and care we received from everyone involved with the club. That will be with us forever.
“As I look ahead, my main aim is to play regularly and consistently with the first team, and I’m interested to see what the next chapter has for me. “I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will always be grateful for my experience here, and I hope Millwall further success in the future.”
