QPR host Grenfell Memorial Cup ahead of eighth anniversary

QPR host Grenfell Memorial Cup ahead of eighth anniversary.

SATURDAY, June 14, 2025, marks the eighth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire, and QPR, as always, stands with the community, commemorating all those touched by the disaster.

Over the previous eight years, the club has collaborated closely with Grenfell United, the Grenfell Foundation, and local community partners to assist those affected, honouring the memories of the 72 people killed and the countless thousands affected. As part of that continuous commitment, the Grenfell Memorial Cup will return to MATRADE Loftus Road on Friday, May 9, bringing together survivors, bereaved families, and members of the local community for a powerful and touching evening of solidarity, remembering, and football. The ceremony began with a 72-second applause as a sorrowful memorial to those we lost, before teams of all ages took the pitch to compete in the tournament. Alongside the matches, a family fan zone provided activities and entertainment for children, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere for all attendees.

Andy Evans, CEO of QPR in the Community Trust, reflected on another memorable day at the stadium: “This event means a lot to us as a football club and as a community centre. “The Grenfell Tower fire had a significant impact on our community, and we recognised right away that our response needed to go beyond symbolic gestures. “Supporting individuals affected, both publicly and privately, remains an important element of our purpose. “The Grenfell Memorial Cup is a day to remember, reflect, and reconnect. It’s about giving folks a place to come together and experience a feeling of belonging and togetherness. It’s tremendously moving to see survivors and families return year after year, smiling, participating, and building new memories.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has continued to support our event, from the organisers and volunteers to the players and families. It’s an honour to open Loftus Road for such a vital cause, and we’ll keep it near to our hearts.” As we approach the eighth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower tragedy, everyone at QPR wishes their continuous love and support to the families, friends, and communities still affected.
