Junior Firpo is now on course to depart Leeds United for Real Betis, with the Spanish side having finalised the deal to bring him back to La Liga.

The left-back’s contract at Elland Road is set to expire at the end of June. Although Leeds had been in discussions over a potential contract extension, Firpo attracted attention from several clubs, with Real Betis emerging as the frontrunners.

According to Spanish outlet ABC, Firpo’s return to Betis has now been completed. The 27-year-old is expected to sign a three-year deal with the club, officially joining once his Leeds contract concludes.

With Firpo’s departure now all but confirmed, Leeds United will need to source a new left-back ahead of their Premier League campaign. Aston Villa’s Alex Moreno is among the targets under consideration. Moreno spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Nottingham Forest and is widely expected to leave Villa Park this summer, with multiple clubs showing interest.

Despite securing Firpo, Real Betis are also understood to be in the market for an additional experienced left-back.

Meanwhile, the connection between Leeds United and Real Betis continues to strengthen. The Spanish club are also reportedly keen on signing striker Mateo Joseph. Joseph began the 2024/25 campaign as Daniel Farke’s starting forward but struggled for consistency in front of goal and was eventually replaced by Joel Piroe. Nonetheless, the 20-year-old remains highly regarded and is seen as a promising long-term option for Betis.
