Joao Pedro Transfer Blow for Newcastle as Forward Favors London Move

Newcastle United’s pursuit of Brighton forward Joao Pedro has run into trouble, with the 23-year-old reportedly leaning toward a move to a London-based club. The Magpies had been monitoring Pedro closely ahead of a potential bid, but their longstanding interest may now be under threat.

Pedro, who came close to joining Newcastle during his time at Watford in 2022, is said to be seeking a fresh challenge. Brighton teammate and fellow Brazilian Igor Julio recently told Trivela that Pedro has made it clear to the club that he is ready to move on.

“Joao Pedro had already told Brighton some time ago that his desire was to leave, look for new things, and take the next step,” Julio explained. “It seems it will be difficult and complicated for him to stay here; we have to be honest, the club already knows that.”

Brighton are understood to be demanding around £70 million for the attacker, who netted ten goals last season and is valued for his versatility across the frontline. The Seagulls have a track record of holding firm on high valuations, having previously secured big-money deals for Moises Caicedo and Marc Cucurella.

Newcastle’s owners are wary of paying inflated fees, and with Pedro appearing to prefer a move to the capital, the North East club could be forced to re-evaluate their options.

Julio further added that Pedro has long aspired to live in London, hinting that clubs from the capital may have an advantage. “He always told me that he really wants to live in London, so I think he will prioritize what comes from there first,” he said. “If it were me, I’d go to Liverpool — I think he’d fit in well there — but I know London is his dream.”

Pedro has scored 30 goals and contributed ten assists in 70 appearances for Brighton. With Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham all said to be monitoring his situation, Newcastle may have to shift focus if their pursuit proves unsuccessful.
