Huddersfield Town have endured a tough few years as they prepare for another season in League One.
Kevin Nagle bought the club in 2023 with the goal of reaching the Premier League, but the Terriers have since regressed. Nonetheless, long-term goals remain in place, and while it may appear far away, Huddersfield is a club that has overcome the odds in the past.
Aaron Mooy was key in successful Huddersfield Town period
Most notably, the Yorkshire club just achieved promotion to the Premier League under David Wagner’s leadership. While it was a true team effort, there’s no denying that Aaron Mooy was crucial to the Terriers. The midfielder signed on loan from Manchester City and instantly impressed with his brains and technical skills.
Mooy, who joined permanently after promotion, took that form into the Premier League, where he sparkled as Huddersfield stunned neutrals once more, this time by remaining in the top level. The Australian’s stint at Huddersfield ended on a sour note, as the club was relegated during his third season in a blue-and-white shirt, making a move seem inevitable. Brighton signed Mooy, and while he showed flashes of his potential, he was unable to consistently find his best form, resulting in a move to Shanghai SIPG in the summer of 2020.
However, he would return to Britain a few years later, where he would rejoin with former Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou at Celtic.

However, Mooy opted to retire from football after that season, at the age of 32, which surprised many. Throughout his career, the 57-cap international avoided the spotlight and appeared to be a low-maintenance player at whatever team he played for. As a result, Mooy was always expected to retire from the game, which has happened.
