Hearts set to face East Kilbride as Derek McInnes brings Jambos to K-Park for friendly.

The freshly promoted League Two team will face a tough test from the Premiership side.

East Kilbride manager Mick Kennedy and incoming Hearts manager Derek McInnes will square off in a pre-season friendly at K-Park. The bad news for supporters is that the match will be held behind closed doors. Kilby has recently been promoted to the SPFL, and they will face some tough tests as they prepare for the major step up from the Lowland League. They meet Championship side St Johnstone in their first League Cup group stage encounter on July 12, and Kilby’s League Two games will be announced when the SPFL releases the 2025/26 schedule on Friday. The game with the Jambos, which will be confirmed in the coming days, follows the club’s announcement that former Celtic manager Neil Lennon will bring his Dunfermline team to K-Park for a friendly on Saturday, June 28. Supporters are welcome to attend the match, and tickets are currently available online.

Kilby manager Mick Kennedy has confirmed to Lanarkshire Live Sport that the battle with the capital club is virtually complete, but it will not be open to the public. He stated: “The Hearts’ first team will attend, but it will be a behind-closed-doors game. We are just waiting to see which of the two dates will be used.

East Kilbride players celebrate their promotion to League Two. We now have adequate respect in the leagues for the quality of our club. We’ve always posed a significant challenge while playing against a team that is ranked higher than us. “With where Hearts will be in their pre-season at that stage, it will most likely be a difficult enough game for them to prepare for more difficult friendlies. It is suitable for both clubs. “With Derek going in there, he will be building his own group and looking to fine tune, but it is something we are all loooking forward to.”Regarding the Dunfermline game, Kennedy stated, “Neil will be looking to challenge for the Championship and get into the Premiership as soon as possible.” It’ll be exciting to have Neil and his team here. “It’s a good test for us before the League Cup section gets going.”
