The 23-year-old center-half is reportedly being pursued by Charlton Athletic, Preston North End, Queens Park Rangers, and Watford. He will have to decide whether to return to the Championship or stay at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, where better times appear to be ahead, and accept the offer they have made.
Jacobson, who signed with the Royals after Rob Couhig took control in May, acknowledged that they might not be able to keep all of the players they had extended new contracts to.
“Everyone who we wanted to stay will stay, within reason,” the former defender for Wycombe Wanderers told the Reading Chronicle.
“We are making an effort, but given how well some performed, we might not be able to keep everyone.
“We would really like to retain all of the people to whom we have extended contracts. Maybe it won’t, but that’s football. We are looking to bring in some very talented and captivating players.
Following the buyout, the EFL relaxed Reading’s long-standing embargo, allowing them to purchase players for cash for the first time in four years during this transfer window.
Although they have secured the future services of Joel Pereira and Lewis Wing, they have not yet added any new players.
Since the club changed ownership at the end of the previous season, Jacobson disclosed that further Reading players have also agreed to stay but cannot be made public just yet because of a procedure they must go through with the EFL.
According to the Welshman, they have been in discussions with other players who are also sought after by teams in their division and the league above, and two of those discussions are almost complete.
