Sky Sports Newcastle United £19m transfer hijack claim after Leeds medical booked & four-year deal agreed.

Newcastle United have been connected with a last-minute move of a player who has already committed to join Leeds United this summer. The summer transfer season is back open, and the bizarre transfer rumours are in full swing, with Newcastle United once again participating. This time, Sky Sports Switzerland reports that Newcastle are interested in signing Slovenian international centre-back Jaka Bijol from Udinese. The 26-year-old is available for £19 million this summer and has decided to join newly promoted Leeds United.
Newcastle United linked with Leeds United transfer hijack as medical expected
According to Sky Switzerland, Newcastle is interested in Bijol as a potential centre-back to back up Dan Burn, Fabian Schar, Sven Botman, and Jamaal Lascelles. But time is clearly against The Magpies, as Leeds have already accepted personal terms with the 63-year-old Slovenia international, who has also been linked with Aston Villa. Bijol is thought to have agreed to a four-year contract with Leeds. According to TalkSPORT, Bijol is scheduled to have a medical at Leeds, so Newcastle would need to act soon if they want to sign him. The prospect of joining a Champions League club in Newcastle over a newly-promoted Premier League side could prove enticing for the defender, though he would likely get more regular first-team football at Elland Road.
The 6ft 3in Slovenian has played 95 times for Udinese in the three seasons since his £3million arrival from CSKA Moscow in 2022.

Bijol’s transfer to Leeds has been handed the Fabrizio Romano ‘here we go’ mark, indicating a deal is likely. The transfer analyst stated on X: “EXCLUSIVE: Leeds United agree to sign Jaka Bijol from Udinese; club-to-club deal completed and here we go!
“Agreement for €22 million in transfer fee add-ons included, with personal arrangements also in place for centre back to join #LUFC. “New defender to undergo medical soon.” However, Newcastle fans will know not to take a Romano ‘here we go’ as reality, as Joao Pedro’s possible move to St James’ Park was given the ‘here we go’ back in 2022 only for the deal to fall through. Although a last-minute hijack of Leeds’ line-up deal is extremely unlikely, Newcastle’s intention to recruit a defender this summer makes it more plausible.
