Former Sheffield Wednesday owner plans crunch talks with Dejphon Chansiri, he has people who can ‘help’

Sheffield Wednesday and owner Dejphon Chansiri are entangled in financial turmoil, and the man who sold the club to the Thai businessman has now offered help.

One of the greatest clubs in the second tier, Sheffield Wednesday, are embroiled in a financial mess in the wake of their 12th-placed finish last season under Danny Rohl.

Some players have had their wages for last month paid, while others remain unpaid, leaving the Owls with the transfer embargo looming over Hillsborough.

Last week, some club staff had to take up emergency funding amid the ongoing financial issues at the club regarding owner Dejphon Chansiri.

As the turmoil continues into the summer transfer window, the man who sold Sheffield Wednesday to Chansiri has shared a damning verdict on the situation.

Dejphon Chansiri slammed by former Sheffield Wednesday owner Milan Mandaric

Amid the ongoing crisis, a takeover intermediary claimed that the Owls chief Chansiri wants £160m for Sheffield Wednesday. EFL Analysis’ football finance expert Adam Williams believes Chansiri will want at least £105m to match Sheffield United’s recent deal.

In January 2015, a consortium led by Chansiri acquired a 100 percent stake of Sheffield Wednesday from Milan Mandaric, for a deal worth £37.5 million.

Mandaric had been in charge since December 2010 at Hillsborough, and he now issued some words of warning to Chansiri amid the Owls takeover and financial fiasco.

Mandaric told Football Heaven: “I’m going to meet in London, I’m arriving there, I’m going to talk to some people about that.

“I have a plan to do so and, you know, I have my ex-manager, who was there, Paul Aldridge, and John Redgate, they all work for me and they know what’s going on, and I want to see what could be a possibility to take over that club.”

When asked if Mandaric is “actively now taking it upon yourself to try and help?”, he continued: “Yes, no, I would have to get involved.

“If I’m going to bring somebody, I would have to get involved myself as well, okay, so I have no problem with that, but you have to find, there are two things, you have to find the right person, but more important, you have to have Mr. Chansiri to agree on that and that’s the difficult part right here, to be honest with you.

“For some reason, he doesn’t want to sell it because he’s asking some crazy price, you know, which will never get like well over 100 million pounds, what I understand, you know, he’ll not get that price.

“He’s going to be an obstacle, no matter what we try to do and what we could do, he’s going to be there and he’ll be an obstacle, but I’ll give it a try, let’s put it like that,

“I’m not going to give up, I’m going to test him when I come there, I’m going to try to see definitely if I can see him with a couple of my people, you know, and be very safe with him, telling him he’s going to destroy the club to the end unless he does something and doesn’t let new people like me to get involved in the club and try to help and get back relationship with supporters and get going in the right direction.”

Who wants to buy Sheffield Wednesday from Dejphon Chansiri

The hope for the future of Sheffield Wednesday now is that either Mandaric or another prospective buyer, in Adam Shaw’s consortium can negotiate a deal with the Thai businessman to take over at Hillsborough.

However, with Chansiri known to be difficult to deal with, and his eye-watering asking price, those hopes are dwindling rapidly among the Owls faithful.

Sheffield-born, American-based businessman Shaw is leading one party who are strongly linked with a takeover of Sheffield Wednesday, but Wednesday fans can’t agree on the potential new owner.

Shaw revealed details of his consortium, and the group of 16 wealthy individuals would be a welcome change at the club, if not for Chansiri rebuffing two substantial offers already made by Shaw’s camp for Sheffield Wednesday.

Now, former Owls owner Mandaric has thrown his hat into the ring. Whether it is Shaw’s consortium, or the man who sold Sheffield Wednesday to Chansiri, the situation must be resolved rapidly because the club’s future is on the brink.
