As they get ready to reveal their fifth summer recruit, CITY anticipates that Lewis Richards and Ciaran Kelly will be signed in time for the preseason.
Graham Alexander is confident that the defensive pair will be there when the team resumes training on Monday to start preparing for League One.
Before returning to Woodhouse Grove, the Bantams also intend to make an announcement on their most recent capture. However, the City manager chose not to respond to rumours that Ibou Touray, a left back for Stockport, would be joining the team.
Richards, whose season was cut short by injury, would face fierce opposition from Touray’s possible arrival.
Following surgery, centre half Kelly also missed a portion of City’s victorious League Two campaign. Alexander is certain that both of the players who are not under contract will sign a contract.
He stated, “I think they are very close to finishing their re-signing for the club.”
“Just a few things need to be worked out. We sincerely hope that by Monday, both of them will be Bradford players.
Unfortunately, the issue for both of them was that their seasons had been interrupted by injuries.
“However, we think they are excellent players who can develop with our team.”
Richards had a strong start to the previous season before he dislocated his shoulder twice, one in November against Colchester and again three months later at Wimbledon.
Then, early in his comeback game at Bromley, he sustained a catastrophic hamstring injury that ended his campaign early.
Ankle and hamstring ailments hindered Kelly’s progress, causing him to miss three months of the season’s first half and another run of games during City’s busy start to the new year.
Meanwhile, demoted Shrewsbury is apparently after Sam Stubbs.
After making 46 appearances while on loan at Cheltenham last season, Stubbs was let go by City.
The centre half is someone Michael Flynn is eager to recruit because he sees him as a future captain, but Shrewsbury may present fierce competition given their tumble to the fourth division.
At this point, it is still unclear where former City captain Richie Smallwood would likely go after his three-year stay at Valley Parade.
