Leeds United join hunt, Bradford City close in and Sheffield United eye duo – transfer latest.

Leeds United, Sheffield United, and Bradford City are among the clubs covered in our most recent transfer news round-up.

It has been another hectic 24 hours for Yorkshire’s clubs, with deals being pursued and agreements being reached throughout the county. The summer transfer market is still in its early stages, but speculation is rampant as clubs try to capture the players they want in their squads for the 2025/26 campaign. Onyedika, a 17-cap Nigeria international, earned nearly 50 matches for Club Brugge during the rigorous 2024/25 season. One of the highlights was a Champions League goal against Manchester City in January.

Leeds are thought to be competing with Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United for the 24-year-old’s signature. Bradford City closes in. Bradford City are said to be close to signing veteran left-back Ibou Touray. The 30-year-old, who is a promotion specialist, has yet to sign the new contract offered to him by Stockport County. It has been speculated that the Everton academy graduate would move to West Yorkshire to join Graham Alexander’s team.

Sheffield United eye duo

Sheffield United are allegedly considering recruiting Tottenham Hotspur prospects Ashley Phillips and Alfie Devine. Phillips, a 19-year-old centre-back, spent the previous season on loan at Stoke City and was linked with the Blades last year. Devine, a 20-year-old midfielder, played the 2024/25 season on loan with Belgian club Westerlo.Alfie Devine spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Westerlo in Belgium.

Huddersfield Town move for midfielder

Huddersfield Town is believed to have made an aggressive bid for Leyton Orient midfielder Ethan Galbraith. The 24-year-old had a fantastic 2024/25 season in League One and is believed to have piqued Championship attention. Sheffield United, Swansea City, and Charlton Athletic have all been connected, but the Terriers appear to be planning a coup.

One in, one out at Hull City

Hull City has terminated the contract of experienced forward Joao Pedro. The 33-year-old, who has represented Italy at the senior level, joined the Tigers from Fenerbahce last year. However, he is now free to seek fresh pastures. On the recruitment front, the Tigers have signed former Rotherham United defender Semi Ajayi after he left West Bromwich Albion. After signing, Ajayi stated: “The club wants to compete at the top of the league, and that is where I see myself competing. When I heard the vision, I was eager to join engaged in the project.”

Middlesbrough linked with defender

Middlesbrough are reportedly interested in Chelsea defender Alfie Gilchrist. The 21-year-old has played for the Blues in the Premier League but was loaned out to the Championship last season to gain experience. He made 32 games for Sheffield United but is now being linked with Middlesbrough.

Barnsley forward targeted

Milton Keynes Dons are rumoured to be planning an audacious move for Barnsley forward Stephen Humphrys. A large squad is being assembled at Stadium MK, managed by former Rotherham United manager Paul Warne. Humphrys’ contract with Barnsley will shortly expire, and the Dons are apparently seeking to persuade him to drop down to League Two.

Fresh challenge for Doncaster Rovers promotion-winner

After helping Doncaster Rovers win League Two, defender Joseph Olowu has been signed by Stockport County. The 25-year-old turned down a new contract in South Yorkshire and has now joined the Hatters after missing out on the League One play-offs last season. Stockport manager Dave Challinor said: “I’m happy that Joseph has decided to join us, having been promoted to this league with Doncaster last season. “I know it was a big decision for him, as he’d had a great season and enjoyed his time there.”
