Derby County Eye Surprise Swoop for Sheffield Wednesday Star

Three teams, including Derby County, are connected to a shocking transfer raid for a Sheffield Wednesday star.

According to reports, Derby County is one of the teams attempting to make a surprise deal for Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan.

The Scot, who has received a new contract offer from the Owls, has also been linked to Stoke City and Coventry.

However, Bannan is reportedly currently weighing his options since Wednesday was recently struck with a three-window transfer fee ban for late wage payment.

Prior to playing for Derby, Bannan had a successful stint at Pride Park while on loan from Aston Villa.

And when he scored with a beautiful long-range effort in Wednesday’s 2-1 triumph at Pride Park last season, he provided a welcome reminder of his abilities.

Some Derby supporters jeered at Bannan during that game, and he claimed afterward that he could not understand why.

“I had a bee in my bonnet at halftime,” Bannan said after the game to BBC Sheffield. I had a personal grudge to come out and do something exceptional in the second half because the Derby fans were beating me and getting me booked in the first half. Fortunately, I got a chance at the edge of the box and took advantage of it.

“To be honest, I liked my time here when I was younger, so it felt a little strange that they were jeering and beating me; that’s why the celebration was so extravagant. I was glad to go rejoice with my supporters in the audience because you have to return some of the favors that they offer you.

“I get sticks, but not in this place. For them, I performed. It felt a little strange that I was jeered because I had a good time here. I believed I did okay in this situation.

I don’t often get a decent reception at stadiums, but I figured I’d be fine here today. The last laugh belongs to me.

Although Bannan is nearing the end of his playing days, he played 45 games, recorded four goals, and provided four assists last season, making him a vital member of Danny Rohl’s team.
